President Donald J. Trump has proven to be the type of change Washington needs. This is precisely why the Washington establishment has opposed him and attacked him at every turn, even before he took office. Despite this fierce and even illegal opposition, President Trump’s Agenda and actions have successfully transformed many policies and portions of our federal government. In resetting our international relations to reverse President Obama’s disastrous foreign policies, we are supporting our friends and fighting those who have taken advantage of America for decades. From securing our border, supporting American energy independence, fundamental tax reform, to cutting regulations, protecting religious liberties and the 2nd Amendment, and transforming our Supreme Court and entire federal judiciary, President Trump’s first term has been incredibly successful. He deserves a second term, and one without the Washington establishment and media elites attempting to thwart his every word and move.
If elected, Jason will be a strong supporter of the Trump Agenda in the U.S. House of Representatives. Jason has been at John Ratcliffe’s side as he fought to support President Trump and root out the illegal actions of unelected bureaucrats who sought to overturn an election and remove Trump from office. Jason is proud to have a number of friends who serve at high levels in the Trump administration. Jason and his daughter proudly attended President Trump’s rally in Dallas last year and has supported the Trump campaign along the way.
Jason strongly believes that more freedom, less government, and reducing the tax burden is a basic formula for economic success. Combined with increasing domestic manufacturing and energy production, expanding rural broadband, and strong and fair trade deals, Northeast Texas and the United States are poised to experience incredible economic opportunity…but only if these conservative principles are part of the formula.
To that end, Jason strongly supports free enterprise and the free market, and opposes excessive regulations and tax increases. We must cut the red tape and reduce government interference to foster economic growth and unleash innovation. While competition is good for the overall economy, it is essential our employers and manufacturers not be driven overseas by foolish socialist policies and big bureaucracy. Now more than ever, the U.S. needs to be energy independent and strengthen its own manufacturing and labor force so as not to rely on foreign nations. The current pandemic makes this manifestly clear.
Our Military and Veterans
America is great because of our military might and the service and sacrifice of the men and women in uniform who have defended freedom for the over two centuries. If we are to remain great, we must continue to project power and ensure we are prepared to defend our nation in any foreign or domestic attack by maintaining the best trained, educated, and equipped military in the world.
Jason’s grandfathers fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and their stories and service impacted him from a young age. By serving the more than 63,000 veterans in the 4th District and our active duty servicemembers during the years he worked as Congressman Ratcliffe’s District Chief of Staff, Jason has seen many of the struggles they face and the importance of ensuring that those who sacrificed for this country are honored properly and have access to the highest-quality health care, resources, and benefits they deserve.
As with most other things, government is not the solution. Obamacare and Medicare for All are the wrong directions. These socialistic approaches have proven to only make matters worse. There is no place for the government in an individual’s healthcare choices, and those decisions should be made between patients and their doctors.
We don’t just have a healthcare challenge, we have a societal health problem and a cost crisis. 80% of healthcare costs go to treat the effects of 5 chronic diseases—many of which are the result of lifestyle choices. A significant part of the solution will be to empower individuals to engage in healthier lifestyles to prevent and reverse these chronic diseases. Jason experienced this firsthand, as he made the decision 15 years ago to get control of his health through diet and exercise, resulting in losing over 70 pounds and avoiding medications to treat the chronic conditions he was on the cusp of having. We need to empower every individual through their families, communities, and churches to take responsibility for his or her health as a fundamental way of addressing our societal health challenges.
At the same time, the rising costs of care are unsustainable. Having to make the decisions each year in renewing his company’s health insurance has made this unmistakably clear. Employers and families can’t afford the ever-rising cost of medical insurance. As such, another part of the solution is to bring true free market forces to the healthcare system—pricing and competition among the most important, including crossing state lines. The healthcare system is one-fifth of our economy, yet the free market has never been unleashed to bring pricing transparency and consumer choice to our healthcare decisions.
Every child deserves the greatest chance at success and every family deserves the right to choose the right education path. Jason attended both public and private schools. Jason and his wife chose public education for their children, and will strongly support our public education system and ways to further improve public education. Jason also knows that private schools and home schools are incredible options for many families. Whatever the choice, the federal government has taken on a much greater role than it should. Parents and teachers are the best equipped to make choices for their children and federal government interference should be kept to an absolute minimum. Texas school systems should have the freedom to implement innovative and robust programs that fit the needs of every child. Jason is committed to improving higher and technical education programs that give people of all backgrounds access to the skills and opportunities they need to successfully participate in the 21st century workforce.
Immigration and Border Security
One of the core beliefs Jason believes is that a primary role of the federal government is to preserve the integrity of our sovereign borders. Jason strongly supports the President’s commitment to building a wall of physical and technological barriers to strengthen security along our southern border. This is not just an immigration issue, it is a national security issue that encompasses illegal drugs and counterfeit goods, human trafficking, and terrorism. “Sanctuary cities” are dangerous, illegal, and their refusal to enforce the rule of law must come to an abrupt end.
Illegal border crossings are only half of the problem. Overstays of lawful visas account for the other half of those illegally inside the U.S. As such, our visa system and enforcement of overstays must be improved. Stricter protocols for seeking asylum and smarter visa decisions are needed to address the flaws in the system. Individuals should come to this country legally, following modernized, fair, and smart rules and regulations. And while we need a lawful work visa process, illegal immigrants should never be permitted to take jobs away from hard-working Americans.
The Constitutional right to keep and bear arms is foundational to our Republic and to every other liberty. Jason considers it his duty to protect and defend the right of American citizens to keep and bear arms. He will stand in firm opposition to those forces who seek to take away or limit this precious right. Jason is an NRA member and has been a Texas CHL/License to Carry holder since he turned 21. He and his family regularly exercise this right, whether by handguns, rifles, or shotguns. Jason knows our 2nd Amendment is not just about hunting and sport, but about the right to self-defense and to protect us from a tyrannical government.
Jason is Pro-Life. He firmly believes that all people are created equal by Almighty God with certain inalienable rights, including the right to life. Life begins at conception and should be protected as such in the eyes of the law. Jason strongly opposes abortion and believes that every life is worth saving. When Lauren became pregnant with their first child, the doctors told them the child may likely have one or more severe birth defects. He did not, and is today a vibrant adult.
One of the most noble things a mother can ever do is to carry a child to delivery and place the child with an adoptive family. As a corollary, the decision to adopt a child is one of the most noble decisions a family can ever make. The federal government should not be an impediment, but should get out of the way and allow our local crisis pregnancy centers and non-profit organizations to be the bridge to support these noble choices.
Religious liberties are under attack—here in America and across the world. This is especially true for Christians. While our Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and the right to freely exercise religion, these freedoms are in peril due to concerted efforts of powerful forces in our culture that seek to remove God from our country. America was founded upon Christian principles, and we must preserve and return to those principles if we are to have any hope of securing the blessings of liberty and solving many of the ills permeating our society.
Foreign Affairs and National Security
President Trump has reversed the Obama Administration’s failed foreign policy objectives and has restored our nation’s status as the undisputed leader of the free world. Jason believes in continuing the policies of President Trump and putting the vital interests of the country first to ensure a prosperous and safe America. We cannot return to the foolish policies and practices of prior administrations who gave money to those who hate us, apologized for America, and ignored the threats from nation states that seek global dominance and to take advantage of American goodwill. In the same way – we should remember the importance of our strong and historical allies and work hand in hand with the countries where we have mutual cooperation and common principles – like our democratic ally in the Middle East – Israel.
Infrastructure and Transportation
Clean water and safe roads are essential to sustaining and growing our nation’s economy. The federal government should allocate funds appropriately and fairly and eliminate red tape to give states the freedom to implement new construction for highways, bridges, and other infrastructure projects. At the same time, we must protect private property rights.
Jason recognizes the important role agriculture plays in our nation’s economy and knows that Texas’s ranchers and farmers are a backbone of the food industry. With over 23,000 farms and ranches across the 4th District of Texas, Jason has worked with our agriculture community to learn many of the concerns and issues facing our farmers and ranchers. Jason and his wife have a few cows, though their livelihood is not dependent on it. For those whose livelihoods do depend on it, Jason supports policies that protect our farms and keep the agriculture community safe and sustainable, including strong trade protections. Jason believes that additional protections and resources should be available to the agriculture community, especially when they are faced with national and natural disasters.
